Hair today, Gone tomorrow! Princess Beatrice's quirky hat sells for over £80,000

How much are you willing to spend on a hat? A tenner? £50? Maybe even £100 for a special occasion? Well, how about £81,100.01? What do you get for that price? A piece of unusual and structural art and oh, did I mention the previous owner was only Princess Beatrice and happened to showcase the headpiece at THE wedding of the year?!

But it's all for fantastic causes. After ten days of crazy E-bay bidding, the piece designed by Philip Treacy reached the eye-watering heights of over £80K. The funds of which are to be split evenly between UNICEF and Children in Crisis - both great charities that help vulnerable children. The hat's unusual design sparked an immediate division of fashion opinions following the Royal Wedding but it seems the Princess has laughed off the catty criticisms and turned fashion into finance.

On Children in Crisis official website, she commented: “I cannot believe the amazing response to the hat, it has its own personality, and I am so happy that we have raised the most incredible amount of money and can make an even bigger change for the lives of some of the most vulnerable children across the world. I am so grateful to all those who have taken the time to participate in the auction, I know that with all their support we are going to make a real difference in providing education, health and support to children who are most in need. This has been such a wonderful project to be a part of, working with Children in Crisis and UNICEF has been fantastic." (Comment sourced from:
