Interior design: Meet my new university room

Yes, I am one of those people who gets a bit too excited at the prospect of interior design. I watch that many house programmes that by the time I have a good house, I'll be like a little kid in a sweet shop. Escape to the Country is probably my all-time favourite house programme but I've cut back on my hours watching as I get quite jealous at all of the millionaire couples who complain that six bathrooms and bedrooms is 'small' and that anything under 2 acres would be claustrophobic. Anyway, back to the topic! As most of you who read my blog will know, the past week I've been moving into my new university house. Last year I got lumbered with the smallest room in the house - this year however, the tables have turned and I've got the biggest room. It's going to take a lot of getting used to as I've always grown up with small rooms but I thought I'd share a few photos with you showcasing my new pad!

Great piece of furniture which I've used to store little things like socks, belts etc!

You're probably wondering what exactly I'm hiding under this cloth (well in actual fact it's a curtain but swings and roundabouts come into mind). It's my fireplace - but it's SO unsightly. I'm never going to use it as a fireplace and as this curtain was lying around, I thought I'd out my interior design skills to use and conceal it. Another aspect of my room I'm not too keen about is the red wall. I'm very much a muted tones kind of girl, y'know - creams, beiges - nice neutral earthy colours. Not BLOOD red. The guy who had the room before me decided it would look nice but I don't like it at all - so what did I do? Yep I covered that to (well as much as I could because, let's face it - I'm 5ft 4 and this is a Georgian house). I've smothered it with all of my favourite photos of friends and family.

This is probably my favourite part of the room, as soon as I saw this plaque - I had to have it. I love inspirational words and quotes and thought this one in particular had a great message.

An old photo of me (as a baby) and my late nanna.
