Wednesday Want: A Fashion/Magazine Internship

Unlike most, I didn't know growing up what I wanted to be. I mean, I probably wanted to be Britney Spears but that was always going to be a pipe dream. For a split second, I considered being a dancer, having grown up with ballroom dancing (which I'm very thankful my parents encouraged me to do), but I was never 'spectacular' so I gave up. It was only whilst doing my A Level art when it clicked. It was my art teacher who pointed out a strength in my writing, and while I hate to admit it (as I never particularly liked her), she was the one who made me realise that writing was for me.

I'd always enjoyed writing and was one of those annoying kids in school that would always secretly enjoy writing an essay (what was wrong with me eh?!) but I'd never thought about turning it into a career. In some ways, I wish I would have realised my 'dream' earlier as I would have taken on more work experience when I was younger, but hey, that's life I guess. That meant that I didn't apply for as many Journalism courses as I wish I had. If I could do it again, I think I would have applied for Journalism courses in and around London as one thing that really gets to me being up north is that I can't take on as many internships as people who live closer to the city.

I've recently completed a PR internship which was thoroughly enjoyable but I think my heart lies in fashion and magazines. I finish university for good in May and whilst I write for my university magazine and run this blog, I need to get more experience. I'm hoping to get some over Summer so I need to apply now which is why it's my Wednesday want this week.

I'm not going to list who exactly I want to intern for but I have three that I would love to work with. Time to get my CV and cover letter up to scratch. Does anyone have any tips?

  1. This sounds exactly like me! I also love essays (as long as they're not on Shakespeare, damn you English A level!) and would LOVE to do something like his! It's soo competitive though! I'm sure you'll do perfectly, good luck!

Also, I'm currently running a giveaway for the chance to win a Clarisonic Mia! I'd love it if you could check it out on my blog. xx

  2. I would be lying if I told you I didn't love what I am doing. Being a fashion intern and an editorial intern for a fashion and lifestyle magazine is so exciting! Definitely go for it!
