TV/Film Fashion Icons: Clueless - Cher

90s hit Clueless saw American Alicia Silverstone saunter onto our screens as sassy Cher - a popular high school girl trying to juggle school, boys, friends and fashion. Who remembers her computer clothes dresser? Jealous? I WAS! And while the film saw a lot of young hot talent pave their way onto the Hollywood path, Cher's fashion was in a league of its own.

Pretty in plaid
From pinafores to blazers, to clashing shades and matching patterns, Cher rocks plaid. The all yellow suit is a tough look to pull but thanks to the fitted blazer and white t-shirt and accessories, she wears the pattern - the pattern doesn't wear her!

Subtle sheers
As a girly-girl, Cher's not often seen in black so this sheer blouse with cuff detail is her take on the colour. Its light transparency is kept feminine with a white cami whilst keeping the rock vibe with a surprising silver cross necklace.

Schoolgirl chic
Pleated skirts, crisp blouses, cute cardigans and tank tops make up Cher's take on school uniform. Paired with matching headbands and her trusty black beret, Cher shows that just because it's school, doesn't mean you shouldn't make an effort.

Totally textured
A combination of sheer, ruffles, cashmere and metallic leather show Cher can work textures. A mint tank top and an argyle skirt stops this looking like lingerie. Simple hair and make-up keep this look muted and the knee socks and backpack bring back the school ambience.

Lady in red
Cher turns to red for social events from the Valley party (which ended in tears) to a romantic night in with Christian (which also ended a tears - maybe there's a pattern emerging here?!). She keeps the shade conservative at school but spices it up with short dresses for the night time. And who can forget that fabulous feather-collared coat?!

All white on the night
"What the hell is that?!" "A dress" "Says who?!" "Calvin Klein". Cher makes her usual sweeping staircase entrance in a figure hugging CK dress for her date with Christian. Groomed hair and simple jewellery let the dress do the talking.

Green with envy
A day at the mall and lunchtime at school see Cher showcase a mint green into her wardrobe. Feminine details such as the waist bow tie and and fluffy cuffs add that extra Cher-ness.

Pastel princess
And finally we have Cher's go-to colours in pastels. Sugary sweet pinks and purples, cascading curls and corsages are enough to give you a toothache. A pink lip, rose blusher and perfectly manicured nails finish this look to a tee - girly-girl as its best.

Inspiration for Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf? The similarities are scary but one thing's for sure, Cher made the 90s fashionable. Most people look back at their snaps from the era and cringe, yet Cher's are classic and timeless. Click below for a video playback of Cher's outfits in 60 seconds.

And before we wrap this, why not a few of Cher's best fashion quotes? Oh, go on then!

Mel: "I'd like to see you have a little direction" Cher: "I have direction!" Josh: "Yeah, towards the mall."

Dionne: "Dude, what's wrong? You suffering from buyers remorse or something?" Cher: "God no, nothing like that."

Cher: "I felt impotent and out of control. Which I really, really hate. I had to find sanctuary in a place where I could gather my thoughts and regain my strength" (The mall).

Cher: "Do you prefer 'fashion victim' or 'ensembly challenged?'"

Mel: "So what did you do in school today?" Cher: "Well, I broke in my purple clogs."

Cher: "He does dress better than I do, what would I bring to the relationship?"
