If you really want to make a statement then Pastiche may be just the place for you. Whilst it may not be your go-to shop for wedding dresses, for formal it has almost every style, shape, colour and length that you can imagine. This season they see lace as being the go-to texture and that girls are opting for the slimmer fitting dresses as opposed to the big 'princess' type dresses that have dominated the prom industry for the past decade. Backlesss dresses are one of the best sellers in the store and purple is one the most popular colours this season along with ivory and red. An interesting fact about Pastiche is that they only sell one style of dress per school so that you don't end up wearing the same dress as another girl - so if you're after a particular one, it's best to start prepping early. Unlike when I had my prom, preparations for the dress start incredibly early with some girls starting planning in November, with most proms taking place from May onwards.

Coast is a well known brand for occasion wear however I was pleasantly surprised to discover that their price ranges have widened offering a more affordable option whilst still providing the higher end dresses. The team at Coast showed the company's best selling dress - The Michigan dress, which comes in both a maxi and short length in numerous colours. The store have also started a petite range this season which is based just online at the moment but will later on be introduced into store. They store lots of different but classic styles in what seems to be a more bold colour palette as of late. Coast also have store appointments where you can privately try on dresses for your occasion.

Lipsy to me has always been young, fresh and inspired by the celebrities. Whilst it may not be the first place you think of for prom, it has a range of styles and shapes for lots of occasions whether it's a wedding, party or a general night out. If you are on the lookout for prom dresses, Lipsy offer these at a fantastic price (leaving more money for hair and make-up...). Their main colour palette is pinks, creams and some black. My favourite piece from their collection was the ivory embellished dress - simple but very chic.

And if you're looking for those finishing touches, Aldo has some great footwear and accessories. If your dress is the main talking point, a simple ankle strap heel or black closed toe shoe will do the job. However if you're after something a bit more glamorous, they have glitter gold and silver heels that rival Cinderella's.
