2014 | Year In Photos

2014 2014 - I didn't think it was possible for so much to change in a year. I don't think I've smiled as much as I have this year. I'm not going to pretend that it's been a bed of roses as that's not realistic. No-one posts the sad times they have on Instagram - all you see are the good times, which can give off the wrong impression. But I personally don't like to wallow in those moments - there's always someone worse off than yourself and there's always something to be thankful for. Have I achieved everything I wanted to this year? No. Did everything work out the way I wanted in life, relationships and everything in between? No. But everything happens for a reason and so many other great things happened instead.

In terms of looking back 2014 has trumped 2013. The people I've met and got close to, the places I've been and the challenges I've overcome can only make me look back on this year with one huge smile. I've listed some personal highlights below - what are yours?

Both in and out of work I'm closer to both old and new friends than ever before. I feel like I have a fantastic bunch of people I'm lucky enough to call my friends. They've been a great support and have me in stitches everyday - whether it's re-living the night before, working as a team or being there for each other in the not so great times, they definitely are people I never want to lose.

2014 saw me go to my first ever festival with my colleague and friend. I can't really describe how amazing it was other than saying it was epic.

I've always taken an interest in fitness but this year I'm proud of how seriously I've taken it. Even after a crazy night out, I still stuck to running 7k the next day in the rain. I feel so much healthier and happy with my body. I'm never going to 100% love my body, but who does. I do miss my country runs now I'm a city girl but if I close my eyes on the treadmill at the gym, I can pretend I'm there...

New home
2014 saw me finally bite the bullet and trade my loved country views for city living. Luckily I still have a nice view and even a balcony for all the fresh air I'm used to when I'm surrounded by fields and open spaces. Being able to walk to work, to the shops and home from a night out - to be 5 minutes away from so many of my friends and possibilities without having to rely on one train hour is such a welcome change and makes me feel back in control of my life. And also means I can indulge in my love for interior design and pay back all of my lovely friends for letting me stay and hosting dinner parties and gatherings.

All the weddings
I love a wedding, and luckily this year I got to go to four. The biggest honour was being bridesmaid to one. Getting to watch my best friend marry the man she loves (who's also a very cherished friend to me) is a moment I wish I could live over and over. It was the most perfect day - not because everything went smoothly but because the amount of love in the room and day overcame any hiccups. One of the best speeches went something like this: "Being able to call you my wife is a privilege I will never tire of" = a million hearts melted. Luckily I have a few weddings lined up for 2015 so I get to continue all of this loveliness.

This year I've been a lot more spontaneous with travel and it's something I'll definitely continue in 2015. They're sometimes the best trips, just ending up somewhere you never expected and getting lost (intentionally). I love to feel like a little fish in a big pond which is why I love London. Aside from the usuals like London, Liverpool, Leeds and everywhere else locally, I visited Lanzarote for a hen do for the first time. Spending the holiday with my sister and some of my favourite girls was amazing. I also went to Edinburgh for the first time with my girls - such a stunning city and one I definitely plan on re-visiting. They always say that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer so it's something I definitely plan on doing lots more of next year.
