My Business Teacher
When I first joined business class, my teacher and I clashed. She thought I had ‘attitude’ which coming from the girl who’d always been described as mute and ‘too quiet’ was a little bit of a shock. It turns out the reason we butted heads so to speak was because we were so similar. Even though we were years and years apart in age, I was always mature for my age and our personalities couldn’t have been similar. We were both sarcastic and sarcasm can easily be mistaken for attitude. Once we accepted that we got on like a house on fire. I learnt a lot from her. I learnt business skills, how to better myself, how to be strong and command a situation, a project, a presentation - you name it. So thanks for not giving up on what you thought was a sharp-tongued cocky student...
My Art Teacher
My second school reference of this feature. This time it’s my art teacher. There was no love lost between myself and my art teacher - so why am I thankful to her do you ask? Because she was the person who drove me to pursue writing and journalism. She made me realise how effortless I found it to put pen to paper and how much enjoyment it brought me. I’d like to think I’d still got where I am to today regardless but I’ll hold my hands high and say, yeah, i’m thankful she pointed me in the right direction.
Number one, for giving me my job I guess. But deeper than that - working at boohoo was my first ‘proper job’ out of university and in the time I’ve been here I’ve learnt so much from her, her experiences and her position in the company. It’s not always a smooth ride. I’ve made mistakes but I’ve grown so much both professionally and personally which I’ll always be thankful for.
My Ex Digital Marketing Manager
She’s not my manager but I’m thankful for her upbeat personality, her energy for life, willingness to get involved and to always put 100% into everything. She’s taught me to throw myself into everything and go the extra mile. I won a team player award and part of that I feel is down to her as I feel like a little bit of her has rubbed off.
My Friend VJ
Sometimes you meet someone and they can completely change your life. My friend Vicky has taught me how to live, to be spontaneous, to not be afraid to make yourself look stupid or to take risks. She’s taught me to live for the moment and that’s something money can’t buy - so as far as thankful goes - yep I’m definitely that.
