Places To Drink Outside: Manchester

Untitled Coming from a country girl, Manchester kinda lacks on the outside drinking front. BUT this summer quite a few bars have upped their game and made way for extra room to catch those rays. So whilst we're clinging onto 'summer', should the sun finally make an appearance again, here's some of the best spots to bask in its glory. This isn't an extensive list - just some of my favourites and/or the ones I've been to and can vouch for. It also highlights my need to cut back on the socialising front...

On Stevenson Square or for those not familiar with all of Manchester's streets, above Hula and just a stone's throw away from GBA and PLY. Rosylee is a traditional restaurant (beautiful inside) and come warmer weather, the crowds flock here. It gets a great deal of sun and they've recently extended the 'beer garden' so to speak so even though that's more room for more people, don't rely on the extra space as it'll get filled.
Perfect if you're in the NQ area

Albert's Shed/Dukes 92

Across the other end of town, if you're after a little bit of space from the city, head to Albert's in Castlefield. Come summer this place really comes alive with BBQs, a canal setting and live music. All that AND with a sun trap. You can reserve tables inside at both restaurants but outside spaces are on a first come first served basis so bear that in mind!
Perfect if you're after a day of everything

The Deansgate

As the name suggests, located in Deansgate just a few minute walk from the train/tram stop. Compared to the influx of bars in the city centre, this is more of a traditional pub setting. They have the quaintest roof terrace adorned with plants and greenery and with one of Manchester's most iconic buildings - Beetham Tower overlooking providing the best sun ray bounce.
Perfect if you're after a quiet spot

Manchester House

Whilst the Hilton has the height, Manchester House has the outside vista. With wraparound balconies and rentable terrace, it's the place to go if you're after a special occasion night out or simply want a killer view. Booking gets snapped up pretty quickly - aside from that they have the same system in place as the Hilton where you can queue to head up but expect bigger queues come the weekend.
Perfect if you're after drinks with a view

Another NQ fave when it comes to beer garden drinking, Bluu has a strip of patio outside their bar for soaking up those rays. With drink deals, a vast cocktail range and being in a prime spot for the sun, this one's a no brainer.
Perfect if you're after somewhere to have a break after hitting the shops

Hidden away on Edge street Common has a retractable glass wall so even if you don't wanna be directly in the sun, you can get the outside vibes. There's limited seating outside but well worth waking up early for. This street is full of cool street style, personalities and Common's brunch is one of the best around.
Perfect if you're after people watching

Bar and Grill Restaurant

Don't let the name put you off - whilst this is primarily a restaurant, they've really hit the nail on the head in terms of outside drinking. Nestled on John Dalton Street in between the Town Hall and Bill's, it's not the easiest to spot so get your google maps ready but you'll wanna make sure you do. There's a mix of seating and the world's comfiest booths on the outdoor terrace. Don't panic, they've got Manchester weather down. Should it rain (probably), they have a retractable roof, pillows, blankets AND heaters. They have it covered, literally.
Perfect if you're after a cosy and chic environment

The Oasthouse

One of Spinningfields best outdoor venues come summer, The Oasthouse is a large venue with every drink you could ever want under the sun. Add this to additional outside pop up bars, live music and an electric atmosphere - check their calendar to see what's on when and head on down.
Perfect if you're after live music

The Corn Exchange

Ever since its recent renovation, The Corn Exchange is jam packed full of venues to spend your summer days. Located slap bang in Exchange Square, it's perfect for transport links or if you've shopped 'til you dropped. So drop in one of these bars, grab a bite to eat before eventually having to leave.
Perfect if you're in the centre of town

Tariff Street

Whilst it doesn't get the best sunlight being sandwiched in the NQ, Tariff Street is bursting with places to have a chilled drink from Tariff and Dale to the old timers like Kosmonaut, Whiskey Jar and El Capo. Heck if you have the time and dollar, nip in and out of all of these.
Perfect if you're not all about the sun all day everyday
