17 Things For 2017 - The Results...

So hello 2018. A whole new year of chances, memories to go and make and to reflect on the 365 days that have just passed. Luckily, having a blog, reflection is pretty quick - below are the 17 resolutions I set a whole year ago, and whether I actually achieved them.

1.To stay dry this January

And no, I’m not talking about the weather but the booze. Even though I’ve got to an age now where I miraculously handle my drink to the point of never getting hangovers, I probably do drink more than I should. So for four weeks, it’s off the table. Am I worried? Partly. I’ve got away with no hangovers for so many years now that the paranoid part of me thinks this shift in diet will rock the boat. But here goes…

This was a funny one. January ended up kicking off what was my social butterfly year, so staying dry was bloody hard. It did make me realise how weird people find it if you're not drinking. I resorted to switching between two fake excuses of "I'm pregnant" or "I'm driving", and I'll have to reiterate that these were to strangers, as it would have been a little weird to tell my friends the first, and then not have a child after nine months. So yep - 1/17 nailed. Next!
Result? It's a pass - 1/17

2. To stay in more

Pretty self explanatory but I used to love being at home and having nights in. 2017 didn’t really allow that so whilst I loved every minute of last year, I probably do need to put the party side of me away every now and then.

If you follow me on Instagram, it won't take much to see that this is one that I couldn't have failed more at if I tried. 2017 has been one hell of a year, socially and personally. I've had a grand total of one hangover and had the time of my life along the way. So despite failing, I'm not too concerned...
Result? It's a fail - 1/17

3. To get more sleep

The above two being reasons I don’t but I’m not getting any younger and at some point my baby face genes will fail in helping me look youthful so more time’s needed in bed for sure.

My fave lie ins are well and truly here to stay, but the early nights? That's just something this night owl will never quite get...
Result? It's a fail - 1/17

4. To go to Wimbledon

Because come June every year I become so immersed.

Quickly put, I didn't go. I didn't even watch it this year. WHO. AM. I? Roll on 2018...
Result? It's a fail - 1/17

5. Watch a United game

Because I’ve spent more time inside the Etihad compared to Old Trafford and people are starting to think I’ve jumped ships…

So whilst I have been back to The Etihad and winced every time a ball came near us (front row seats can be a curse too), I've been to three United games this year, PLUS I got my dad in the United programme - DAUGHTER GOALS OR WHAT?
Result? It's a (bloody big) pass - 2/17

6.Sell/donate everything I don’t need

I’ve got a lot of clutter and unused bits so this is the year I finally sell and/or donate it all.

I've made good progress on this one. The selling part? Not so much but I've given away around a dozen bags of bits and bobs to charity, so that's more important...
Result? It's a pass - 3/17

7. Do another 10K

I have a love/hate relationship with exercise...

2017 really got me back into my running and I spent most of my free time running (and hating it). I wish I could say I get those much sought after endorphins, but I didn't. Just sore legs and extra calories to eat. But back to the resolution... Team boohoo did another 10K, and despite being slower this year (I'm blaming the outfit choice, lack of water and the fact I'd been drinking 12 hours before), we raised a whole lotta money for charity.
Result? It's a (very proud) pass - 4/17

8.Go back to the Big Apple

Because quite frankly it’s been too long and I miss the concrete jungle. This one is already in the pipeline so roll on spring/summer!

Insert sad face, I didn't go back.
Result? It's a fail - 4/17

9. To keep my body in shape

Another turn up for the books, for some reason my body’s in the best shape it’s been in so I want to cling onto that whilst I can.

For the first six months I was really dedicated, but towards the end, I slacked, which is ironic really when we've got a gym in our building... But I do walk 10,000 steps every day and when I'm the country, a hike is always on the cards - so the only way is up right?
Result? It's a pass (sorta) - 5/17

10. Raise more money for charity

Last year through the 10K and the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge we raised a lot of money for our chosen charity so here’s to more of that!

From the 10k to bake sales and charity days, I, alongside hundreds of others, definitely passed this one!
Result? It's a pass - 6/17

11. Read

One thing I miss about commuting - reading. On holiday I can get through a book a day but how many have I read since? None. Yep. None.

Ok, so I've not read as much as I would have liked, but I read, so I call that a...
Result? It's a pass - 7/17

12. Work on old relationships

I know for sure that I get wrapped in a bubble in the city sometimes so 2017 is about maintaining relationships.

2017 really was a year to reflect and work on the old and new. And I speak for myself when I think I did just that.
Result? It's a pass - 8/17

13. Get back into baking

Because whilst I’m not GBBO star baker, I used to be pretty good at it.

There's room for improvement, but I baked way more in 2017 than the year previous.
Result? It's a pass - 9/17

14. Blog three times a week

I go through phases of either writing a crazy amount at once to having no motivation whatsoever so for 2017, consistency is key…

My frequency did deplete to once or twice a week so sadly on this occasion...
Result? It's a fail - 9/17

15. Travel more

Aside from NYC, Ibiza and Australia are on the wishlist for this year but pretty much this one is to travel more period, whether that’s at home or abroad.

I went back to Paris and Ibiza but I wished I'd travelled more. I'll still count this as a pass though...
Result? It's a pass - 10/17

16. Take up a new sport

I used to dance when I was younger and whilst my Saturday night moves aren’t the worst, they’re nowhere near what I used to do, so either getting back into that or some other sport.

Yep, this did not happen...
Result? It's a fail - 10/17

17. Be happy

Simple, and a nice one to end on. To follow my heart and go after whatever that is. It’s been a winning formula so far so long may it continue…

I often get told I'm irritatingly happy so on that basis this is a PASS.
Result? It's a pass - 11/17

Overall, I think I did pretty well. I'm always in two minds about setting resolutions because I'm not a big fan of putting pressure on your life, so I don't make them all too specific. Here's to 2018's and the year in general...
